The Beginning
There's a great saying that a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. It's that kind of feeling of anticipation, nervousness, and excitement that enthralls me to write my first blog. Anyone who will see this will most likely know me pretty well, so I won't bore you with a tedious introduction of who I am, where I'm from, etc. A topic that we sometimes hear, but may not always comprehend, came up today: Humility. What is true humility? Is it putting everyone else above myself? Is being humble not telling people that you got an A+ on that ridiculously horrific physical chemistry final exam? Is being humble letting your teammate score the last try (rugby) even though you could've? Would you consider yourself to be humble if someone offended you, but instead of holding a grudge, you approach that person and forgive him/her first? Or is being humble putting yourself lower than others, that instead of thinking I'm better than others, you place yourself second to others? This doesn't mean that I need to think I'm worthless compared to others; after all, God has created me in his own image, with my own unique personality, talents, and gifts. I can't be worthless than, no matter who I compare myself to, right? This means that you do not think yourself higher than others, but appreciate and praise God for creating the person next to you just the way He did. It means regarding that person's gifts and talents just as highly as you would yours. Jesus was the ultimate paradigm of humility, though he was in virtually everything. He, the son of God, the almighty creator of you and me, came down to be with us, to be like us, mere mortal beings. He was spat at, whipped, tortured, mocked, and shunned. Yet He did not blame anyone. He didn't curse at anyone. He never called down an armada of flaming chariots to rescue Him, so that while everyone may stare at him with fear staining their eyes, He could laugh at them and show how powerful He truly was. No, He did nothing of the sort. He loved us, till the moment His mortal flesh decayed and still does, while He now stands next to God, smiling down at us and loving us just as much as he did from the beginning. Praise God for He is good and faithful. Always.
